This Could Be The End Of Hockey For Many

This Could Be The End Of Hockey For Many

This may be the start of many players off season – Even though I hate to say it, for many hockey regions in North America, my area included, there are no games being played and none in the foreseeable future.  If you happen to be lucky enough to still be playing that is awesome!  For the others that aren’t as fortunate, for all intents and purposes the season may be over and
it may be the end of hockey for many and time to regroup.
Instead of packing it in this can actually be the start of an extended off season giving you the leg up on other players that have lost motivation and drive.  This could be your chance to level up and surpass the competition!
I know it’s going to be hard, but it all starts with mind set.  You can play the victim or use this time to make yourself better!  It’s your choice.

You Can Not Train For Speed and Conditioning At The Same Time!

A tired hockey player

Simplifaster

There are a lot of coaches out there that feel training for speed can be accomplished by training for conditioning at the same time and vice versa.

That couldn’t be further from the truth.  Training for Speed and Conditioning must be seperated.

Training for speed involves all out effort with enough recovery between bouts to allow max effort.  This is not possible if you are performing slow long duration conditioning like jogging, down and backs, or gassers.

Conditioning should be specific to the energy systems used during a shift on the ice, not mindless runs that look nothing like the sport.
Two Points to Remember:
  • Speed training must allow for complete recovery between bouts.
  • Conditioning must be sports specific.
Keep these points in mind and reap the benefits.

Is Eating White Rice The Same As Eating Table Sugar? One Study Seems To Think So.

I for one love white rice.  I’m not alone either.  There are a lot of parents that feed white rice to their kids before games as part of their pre-game meal.
If this is you as it is myself as well you may want to check out this article to get the low down and make sure you’re giving your player the best chance for success on the ice with the proper fuel for
performance.
On The Ice
You Need More Weapons In Your Arsenal.

Ice Hockey Systems

Joe Sakic was always known as having one of the best wrist shots in the game and his point total definitely backs that up!
There can be no arguing that the wrist shot is a quick and potent shot, easy to learn, and deadly accurate.  However, is it as effective as it used to be seeing how technical the goaltending is becoming?
It may be time to step it up a notch and add a few more weapons to your arsenal.
Give these options a try:
  • The snap shot
  • Shooting in stride.
  • Shooting off the pass.
  • Changing your shot angle.
  • Bonus – Reacting to rebounds.
You never want to count out the trusted wrist shot, but giving these options a try could help pad your stats and add a few more w’s to your teams win column.

  • McDavid and his two to three crossovers each way down the ice is amazing!

Words of Wisdom
“It’s not about perfect.  It’s about effort, and when you bring that effort every single day, that’s where transformation
happens.  That’s how change occurs.
